Overview:
For this project, we had to think of a real world problem and find a biotech solution to it.
Phase 1: We started with 6 possible problems we wanted to focus in on; for example clean water, plastic in oceans, global warming, etc. My group and I all found focusing on Parkinson's Disease to be the most interesting option in which we would pursue.
Phase 2: We did research on our problem in order to explain it, identify limitations to any solutions, and other current solutions. And find 3 possible solutions to our problem.
Phase 3: Choose a single solution to focus on and then research more about the logistics of it. Find markets, cost, and an increased awareness over your topic/solution.
Phase 4: Action Plan. Fully identify all parts of the solution and describe each process.
Phase 5/6: create a presentation showing all parts of your solution. We created a slideshow with basic Parkinson's facts and our solution.
Phase 7: Present.

Our Presentation:
Concepts:
Biotech: the manipulation (as through genetic engineering) of living organisms or their components to produce useful usually commercial products. We used Biotechnology in our hypothetical stem cell manipulation
Stem Cells: a Cell taken from a body that is modified to fill a need or research. We focused on using IP Stem cells, which means immuno-pluripotent, and these cells are taken from the patients body and changed in a lab.
Parkinson's disease: a neurodegenerative disease that affects non motor and motor skills.
Dopamine: a chemical in the brain that transmits messages between the brain called impulses. The main chemical in the brain that is destroyed in Parkinson's.
Clinical Trials: a series of tests that are used to deem a drug or product safe for public use.

Reflection:
This project was very informative. I enjoyed being able to choose our own region of focus, and choose something I was really interested in. One thing My group and I did very well on was communication. We all worked wonderfully together and really made a cohesive product. Another thing ,y group and I did really well on was leadership. We all took leadership roles on certain "mini assignments". With a shared leadership we all collaborated and contributed to our project in equal amounts. One thing I could've improved upon was my patience. Sometimes I felt rushed and that would reflect on my attitude. Because of this I could also work more on my attitude. Next time I will be a more energetic persona. This project was a great way to finish the year. I can't wait to see what next year has to offer.
